Literature Text

Berthold Hawkeye's apprentice, Roy Mustang, moved in a few months ago, into the Hawkeye's old manor. Roy was a tall, black haired boy with deep dark eyes, and was a real nag. The house, before him, was usually silent, since Berthold's only child, Riza, was a really quiet girl. She was blonde, with honey colored eyes, at least a head smaller than Roy and loved reading.
Both kids were usually together, even when, at the beginning, they thought the other was actually annoying, but after a few weeks of living together, both kids enjoyed being with each other. At least, most of the time.
  • Can you stop bugging me?!
  • Oh, come on, I'm not doing anything!

The boy was simply playing with her hair, or poking her face, or taking away her book, just for fun.

  • You've got to study, Roy, or my father will get pissed again.
  • He's always pissed at me, anyway.

The girl kept staring at him with a sad face. They were both laying in the grass, under the shadow of the biggest elm in the garden. Lots of books were scattered around them, but Riza was the one reading, not Roy.

  • He isn't. Father's just... a bit grumpy.
  • You know he hates me.
  • He doesn't. If he hated you, you would be out of the house by now.

The boy grunted, but took a book, and started reading.

Since her father was teaching him alchemy, Roy had to study hard or else he would be working all the week in the yard, or cleaning or shopping; things he hated even more than studying. Berthold Hawkeye was a really severe man, and he wouldn't forgive his student laziness so easily.

Riza was reading a romantic novel, she found it somewhere in the house. It was probably one of her mother's books, since his father didn't read anything like that. She was a bit fond of it, she would read it and read it again. She would be stuck in the book for hours, and forget about the world.

"You shouldn't fall in love with stars, boy, they're real, for sure, but they're too far to reach-- said the old man"

She liked that phrase, but couldn't quite get why. She was about to reach for Roy, and ask him what he thought about the old man's phrase when she realized that the sun was setting and that, with the book on the floor a few centimeters away from his hand, there was Roy, laying towards her and fast asleep.

She was stunned, somehow. She was lost in the boys face, and couldn't stop staring at it. She could felt the heat growing in her face, and realized she was blushing really hard.

He was so quiet for a change, and he was too close, she could reach his face without effort, and she was struggling to contain herself from doing it. The boy's pale skin was getting redder with the setting sun's light, and his lips looked soft. He looked so peaceful, and so cute and tender, his hair shining, his slow paced breathing. She could notice all of it, and she didn't want to move.

For a while, just watching at him, she thought a lot. She noticed she was really fond of him, and that he was her best and only friend. They stayed like that for a while, and when the boy started to wake up, only then, she understood the book's phrase. And she knew he was her star. But he was there for her, he was real, of course, but she could also reach for him; she could be with him.

He stretched and looked up. The sky was dark blue by now, and a few stars could be seen.

  • Dang, I fell asleep. Sorry, you must have been bored.
  • Not at all, really.

She took her book and said:

  • Come on, bring your books. I'm helping you study, but only to save your ass.

And so, she walked home with a smile, leaving a really stunned Roy behind.
